OCTOBER

  REVOLUTION

On Friday 17th and Saturday 18th October, 60 conference participants will share the excitement of their research with each other at SCMP conferences to be held in tandem at MGSM.  There will be papers presented by PhD candidates and Honours students from Australia, China, England, Indonesia and Sweden. Additionally professors from University of Paris III - Sorbonne, Tsinghua University and Communication University of China will attend.

NEO & MATRIX

The 4 day long SCMP Commencement Program was wrapped up with a Maison du cafe event, where the DVC Research, Professor Jim Piper, pictured above right, launched NEO, a Journal of Humanities & Social Sciences for HDR Candidates.  Professor Piper said he hoped NEO, the journal, would be like Neo in Matrix, the computer user who asked fundamental questions and was able to transcend technology.

SCMP HDR WEEK 4-8 Aug.

Greg Downey, pictured at right, of the Anthropology Department inspired the new candidates with his talk.

Outgoing Division Manager Phillip Corben, pictured above, briefs incoming candidates about the finer points of HDR project budget management. Phillip, who has been an ever-willing supporter of HDR candidates in SCMP, will be moving over to the new Faculty of Science on Monday the 25th of August 2008.

New HDR candidates converse during a break. There were 4 new co-tutelle candidates participating in the SCMP DCP.

Current HDR candidates who are in the first two years of their candidacy are encouraged to consult their supervisors about the possibility of undertaking cotutelles.
