The Macquarie-Tsinghua Graduate workshop for Ph.D. candidates in International Communication was initiated by Professor Naren Chitty, Foundation Chair in International Communication at Macquarie University and Professor Li Xiguang, Executive Dean of School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University in 2005. For the last three years, annual workshops have been held in turn in Beijing (2005, 2007) and Sydney (2006), contributing to enhanced understanding by PhD candidates and staff on both sides of different perspectives. In 2007 the Communication University of China joined as a co-organiser. In 2008 co-organising universities are from Australia, Britain, China and Thailand.
